Collection: Daisuke Seno [Kyoto/calligrapher]

Seno was influenced by his grandmother, who was a calligrapher.1From my age, I started drawing lines with calligraphy brushes. Calligraphy is an art that pursues beautiful letters and compositions using brushes and ink, expresses the hearts and emotions of the writer, and is a culture that has been introduced from China to Japan.
Seno2000Materials that are not used in calligraphy, such as art materials, mortar, and resin, without sticking to the expression of paper and ink, while valuing the modeling beauty of the finished character cultivated in Japanese calligraphy, which has the history of the year. While actively incorporating, we are producing highly unique works.

Seno says that the essence of calligraphy is in the beauty of the "margin" that is intentionally produced, along with the reliable drawing lines. This "margin" is not just a blank, but is regarded as a tranquility and harmony in an empty space between the lines. In addition, the margin is a place that encourages the viewer and has infinite possibilities. In calligraphy, how to express margins is the real pleasure of calligraphy, and it is an important factor that forms its charm.

In recent years, Seno has been working on activities to spread calligraphy as familiar to people around the world, and has expanded his range of activities, including collaboration with various artists and industry, workshops, lectures, and exhibitions.
