Iwayado Tansu, a traditional Iwate Prefecture handicraft designated by the Japanese government.

It is a high-class furniture that has a stately appearance, the elegance of a work of art, the functionality to protect stored items even in hot and humid climates, and the solidity to last for more than 100 years if used carefully.

Iwayado Tansu is one of Japan’s iconic tansu, along with Sendai Tansu and Osaka Senshu Kiri Tansu. It features a body made of natural wood, such as zelkova and paulownia, cut from the mountains. It is coated with local Iwate lacquer, a plant-derived paint, and decorated with gorgeous metal fittings made from Nanbu Tekki (ironware), another traditional craft in Iwate Prefecture.
