Exhibition special feature#09 Umeki Hontane Scissors-Sharp Tane Scissors that are used to grow

We will exhibit at the exhibition "Manufacturing that will lead to the future"It is an introduction of Umeki Hontane Scissors Manufacturing.

Exhibition special feature#09 Umeki Honko Shissa Seisakusho -Sharp Seed Scissors that are used to grow

This is the only workshop in Japan with the only handmade Hontane scissors in the traditional technique "Tsukiki Steel Method".
Shoji Umeki inherits the skills of blacksmithing shops on the 37th island.
Although the seed scissors are evolving, the basic way of making has not changed even after 400 to 500 years.
It is very valuable considering the thoughts that people have inherited for a long time, not just traditional crafts, but a treasure of Tanegashima.
It can be enjoyed as a "hardware to grow", including changes in the texture due to rust.

The exhibition handles scissors and kitchen knives.
Please enjoy a handmade work that has a long sharpness by temperature control and sharpening.

Umeki Hondane Hasami
Sharp Handmade Tane Scissors Get Better with USE

Shoji Umeki is the only person in Japan producing handmade Tane scissors using the traditional method. Although the shape has evolved, the basic manufacturing process has not changed over the past 400 to 500 years. I feel they are not just a traditional craft; they are also very valuable because people have passed them down for generations. Temperature control is very important because the hardening process has a great impact on the sharpness of the scissors. The sharpness of handmade shears lasts much longer than that of mass-produced shears. I hope People will enjo and appreciate the changing form of the scissors, inclining rust.
